Song lyrics meme #3
In lieu of actual content, here's the last of the Song Lyrics Memes. I might be more inclined to, you know, actually write something if I wasn't feeling a bit...off, today. Think I've got allergies or a slight cold or somethin'. Heck if I know.

Anyway, here goes.

Instructions:
- Open your playlist and set it to random
- Select your favourite line from each of the first 20 songs that play and post them
- Others guess what song the line is from

  1. To get my way, I would run from her to him / He'd make me laugh just to comfort me / Then finally make me do just what my mama said Luther Vandross, "Dance with my Father"

  2. So far I still know who you are / But now I wonder who I was Smashing Pumpkins, "Perfect" - identified by Susan

  3. One minute you’re waiting for the sky to fall / The next you’re dazzled by the beauty of it all Barenaked Ladies, "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" - identified by Susan

  4. A window breaks down a long dark street / And a siren wails in the night / But I'm all right 'cause I have you here with me / And I can almost see through the dark there's light Chantal Kreviazuk, "Feels Like Home" - identified by Andrea

  5. Where I lay my hat may not be my home / But I will last on my own Dido, "My Life" - identified by Andrea

  6. You teach me how to love parts of myself I hated for so long Darren Hayes, "Feel"

  7. The poets let a generation down / And modern music could be the healing sound Hawksley Workman, "We Will Still Need a Song"

  8. You've got the most unbelievable blue eyes I've ever seen Donna Lewis, "I Love You Always Forever" - identified by Andrea

  9. I swam across; I jumped across for you / Oh, what a thing to do Coldplay, "Yellow" - identified by Andrea

  10. Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage Smashing Pumpkins, "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" - identified by Andrea

  11. I spoil them when I'm in love / Given them what they dream of / Sometimes it's not a good thing / But I'm blind Janet Jackson, "Someone To Call My Lover"

  12. 'Cause if it wasn't for all that you tried to do, / I wouldn't know just how capable I am to pull through / So I wanna say thank you Christina Aguilera, "Fighter"

  13. I'm half alive but I feel mostly dead Jewel, "You Were Meant For Me" - identified by Susan

  14. I wanna spit in their faces / Then I get afraid of what that could bring / I got a bowling ball in my stomach / I got a desert in my mouth / Figures that my courage would choose to sell out now Tori Amos, "Crucify" - identified by Susan

  15. If you ride upon the tiger you can never get off / They get hungry 54-40, "Casual Viewin'" - identified by Susan

  16. I'm falling apart in your hands again / No way, I've got to get away Shakira, "Objection (Tango)"

  17. Alex is on the last train home from God knows where / A million miles away from where he thought he'd be David Usher, "Alone In The Universe" - identified by Susan

  18. Knee deep I get nowhere from sleep / I'm running out of sheep to count Sugar Ray, "Satellites"

  19. We're devils and black sheep, really bad eggs Pirates of the Caribbean (George Bruns and Xavier Atencio), "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life For Me)"

  20. That I would be good even if I lost sanity / That I would be good / Whether with or without you [uh, this one should be fairly easy seeing as it's nearly impossible to quote a line that doesn't include the song's title...heh] Alanis Morissette, "That I Would Be Good" - identified by Andrea

HBP
I've just now finally finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but I'm not able to formulate any coherent thoughts on the matter just yet. Oh my God. HOW long 'til the next (well, the last) book is available?!

Version 5.14
I belong in a loonybin for [at least] two reasons:

  1. At 3:15 in the morning, I'm sitting here working on my blog layout and typing this post rather than finishing the textbook readings I told myself I'd get through by tonight. Yeah, right. Who was I trying to kid?

  2. I ran several (somewhere between 5 and 10) proposed layouts by Susan about a week ago...figured out which one we liked best, and colors, and whatnot... And today I decide I'm still not too happy with that one, so I make a whole, brand new one. Sorry, Suz. :( I'm not crazy. Just a little impaired, as they say.
Anyway, off I go to make another valiant half-hearted attempt at this productivity thing. Wish me luck! ;)

Song lyrics meme #2
This being the day Susan gets back from her trip to Ottawa (and usually she's got the best shot at guessing these things, 'cause probably at least half our mp3s are similar/the same), I figured now was as good a time as any to post the next set of lyrics. You know, since I'm on here at all in the first place, and by the way, I am SO not prepared for my exam tomorrow.

Anyway. Moving on to happier things, here are the lyrics. Knock yourselves out. :)

Instructions again, just in case:
- Open your playlist and set it to random
- Select your favourite line from each of the first 20 songs that play and post them
- Others guess what song the line is from

  1. Like a rock in the sea / Am I asking too much? Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music, "Is Your Love Strong Enough"

  2. It's hard to say what it is I see in you / Wonder if I'll always be with you Sister Hazel, "All For You" - guessed by Susan

  3. The Earth turns / The Sun burns / But I die Rent Soundtrack, "Without You" - guessed by Susan

  4. Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties / And one day passed away in his sleep / And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days / And passed away / I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong Ben Folds (sans the Five, according to my file info), "The Luckiest" - guessed by Susan

  5. All I need is a little time / To get behind this sun and cast my weight / All I need is a peace of this mind / Then I can celebrate Air, "All I Need"

  6. Don't turn back now that we're here / People always say life is full of choices / No one ever mentions fear Aaliyah (Anastasia Soundtrack), "Journey to the Past" - guessed by Susan

  7. I'm so hard to handle / I'm selfish and I'm sad / Now I've gone and lost the best baby / That I ever had Joni Mitchell, "River" - guessed by Andrea

  8. After two drinks he's a loser after three drinks he's a star Garbage, "Bleed Like Me" - guessed by Aster

  9. Hide your face so the world will never find you Phantom of the Opera Soundtrack, "Masquerade/Why So Silent" - guessed by Susan

  10. There's a dead end to my left / There's a burning bush to my right / You aren't in sight Jewel, "Standing Still" - guessed by Andrea

  11. Whenever I feel like just giving up / Whenever my dreams just fade away / I just return to my heart 'cause I know that I'll find you there / Yes, I will Savage Garden, "Fire Inside the Man"

  12. But I need to know / Will you stay for all time / Forever and a day / Then I'll give my heart 'til the end of all time / Forever and a day Fisher, "I Will Love You" - guessed by Susan

  13. You're the one who makes me come running / You're the sun who makes me shine / When you're around I'm always laughing / I want to make you mine Divinyls, "I Touch Myself" - guessed by Susan and Aster (heh, maybe you shouldn't know it, Suz, but I'm the one who's got it in my playlist!)

  14. You worry about the future / The sign said 'Yoga class for cats' Our Lady Peace, "Carnival" - guessed by Susan

  15. So you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts / What's so amazing about really deep thoughts / Boy you best pray that I bleed real soon / How's that thought for you Tori Amos, "Silent All These Years" - guessed by Susan and Aster

  16. And it's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves / It's the heart of every man Bette Midler, "From a Distance" - guessed by Andrea

  17. You can laugh / It's kind of funny / Things you think / At times like these / Like I haven't seen Barbados / So I must get out of this Tori Amos, "Me and a Gun" - guessed by Susan and Aster

  18. Now our dreams are comin' true / Through the good times and the bad / Yeah, I'll be standin' there by you Bryan Adams, "Heaven" - guessed by Gonzo

  19. Just a kiss on the lips / And I was on my knees / I'm waiting, give me Jet, "Cold Hard Bitch" - guessed by Susan

  20. People talking without speaking / People hearing without listening / People writing songs that voices never share Simon and Garfunkel, "The Sound of Silence" - guessed by Aster

Um. There are some window-washing guys right outside my window right now, which is kinda freaking me out -- and somehow, I find that amusing. I just shut my blinds 'cause it'd just be weird if they were right there, cleaning the windows, and could see me in here. So now it's just a bit darker in here, but I'm still able to spectacularly succeed at not studying, somehow. Really! It hasn't seemed to stop me at all!

Sigh. I think I've gone through about one page of Powerpoint slides so far, and that's really, really NOT good. Exam's on Thursday, and I've really got to get through all this stuff.

Augh, the window guys just moved. And now they're even more level with my windows. Blaah.

Okay, back to not studying...

Alien Dude is dead.

For those of you who haven't seen it or have no idea what I'm talking about, "Alien Dude" has, for the past 5 years, referred to my glow-in-the-dark alien keychain, which, I now recall, used to creep Andrea out. Heh. Anyway, he looked like this:

Alien Dude's relative

...except that he had pink-eye. I normally keep the keychain hooked onto the handle of my lamp, so that at night when I turn the lights off, he's nice and glowy.

Right now, since I haven't bought the requisite lighting yet, my room isn't bright enough at nighttime. So, two days ago, my mom came up with the brilliant idea of swiveling my lampshade around so that the lightbulb would be facing the ceiling -- to give off the same effect as more ambient lighting. Seemed like a good idea at the time, and it did help...only, when she did it, she didn't realize that my keychain was attached to the lamp, nor did she notice that after the lampshade got turned over, the keychain was now resting directly next to the hot lightbulb.

SO, eventually she came back in and was, like, "Aah, something's burning!" And I had no idea what she was talking about because my sense of smell tends to come and go, and at the time was in a "go" phase and I couldn't smell anything out of the ordinary. So, now the lamp's fine, but my Alien Dude is just...gone. His head is fine (sort of), but the body was just desecrated. And even though he isn't a real alien, having a dead alien [keychain] sitting in your room has just got to be bad cosmic, universal karma or something. Arrgh.

Audioscrobbler.com has evolved and has a new site as of today. Check it out! It's so pretty...

Question/Comment: gr8gonzo here. Don't know if you saw this on rym or not, but it's fascinating. It's kinda sad, but profoundly moving: http://postsecret.blogspot.com/
This looks like a pretty interesting site, which invites people to share their secrets on one side of 4"x6" postcard and send it in. Neat.

Question: Gonzo again. Never thought to ask you before - Does it weird you out that some old guy you don't know enjoys reading your blog? Do you secretly wish he would stop commenting on your posts or is it cool with you?
Nah, it makes me happy that anyone enjoys reading my blog, and though I of course love the fact that my real-life friends visit here (love you guys!), it's nice to know that someone enjoys reading my posts who doesn't have any of those I'm-here-to-support-my-friend motives. :)

Gotta go -- have to leave for class in about a half-hour, and I need to eat a snack or drink something or at least take a nap. Ha ha. :)

Praise or don't praise whatever god or gods you do or do not actively or passively worship -- my Internet connection should, from here on in, work as well as technologically possible it's ever going to. Wireless network is up, and except for a painful and somewhat tedious process of having to "acquire a network address" whenever I start up my computer, it seems to be working fine. Oh thank goodness. I'm supposed to be researching some crap for class right now and I did find some sites earlier, but I haven't been able to do as much as I'd have liked to. Gah.

So anyway. In celebration, why don't I post the first of the Song Lyric memes?

Instructions:
- Open your playlist and set it to random
- Select your favourite line from each of the first 20 songs that play and post them
- Others guess what song the line is from

Now, keep in mind that (a) For some songs, the lines aren't necessarily my favorites, but there weren't that many lines to choose from that didn't include the name of the song in them, and (b) I apologize if a few of these are slightly more obscure than others.

Okay. So here it is. (Note that some people might post comments on LJ rather than here.)

  1. It's kinda hard with all that sexual confusion / Sometimes you don't know if you're gay or straight / But what's the difference, it's a wonderful illusion / Most times you won't make it past second base Jeremy Fisher, "High School". Thanks, Gonzo!

  2. Not because I'm tough like Dirty Harry / Make her laugh just like Jim Carrey / I'm like the Cable Guy Blessid Union of Souls, "Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me For Me)". Thanks, Suz! You clearly listen to too much of the same music as I do... ;)

  3. Everybody wants to live like they wanna live and / Everybody wants to love like they wanna love BoDeans, "Closer to Free". Clearly none of you guys watched Party of Five enough, back in the '90s. Heh.

  4. As the world implodes we fall into it Our Lady Peace, "Thief". Thanks, Suz!

  5. Ancestors, hear my plea / Help me not to make a fool of me Mulan soundtrack, "Honor To Us All". Thanks, Suz!

  6. Word has it on the wire / That you don't know who you are / Well, if you could jack into my brain / You'd know exactly what you mean here Poe, "Hello".

  7. Tarzan was king of the jungle and Lord over all the apes / But he could hardly string together four words: 'I Tarzan, You Jane.' Crash Test Dummies, "Superman's Song". Thanks, Suz!

  8. I'd like to know where the riverboat sails tonight / To New Orleans, well, that's just fine, alright Elton John, "My Father's Gun".

  9. Can't sing but I've got soul U2, "Elevation". Good job, Suz. :)

  10. It feels like I'm starting all over again / The last three years were just pretend Michelle Branch, "Goodbye To You". Thanks, Suz!

  11. I never meant to be the needle that broke your back Cat Power, "He War". Thanks, Gonzo!

  12. Hustlers grab your guns / Your shadow weighs a ton / Driving down the 101 Phantom Planet, "California". Thanks, Suz!

  13. I even fell for that stupid love song Kelly Clarkson, "Since U Been Gone". Thanks, Jess!

  14. Make me laugh / Say you know what you want / You said we were the real thing / So I show you some more and I learn / What black magic can do Tori Amos, "Jackie's Strength". Thanks, Suz!

  15. The tease, the way you lie / The stumble in your mind / The fear, the hope inside / They hit here Our Lady Peace, "Whatever".

  16. Do you always say 'I love you' / Well, do you know what that means / Or are they just three words to get you what you what you need Fisher, "Easy For You".

  17. The smell of cold / Car seat is freezing / The world is sleeping and / I am numb Ben Folds Five, "Brick". Thanks, Suz!

  18. I could be a caped crusader or space invader / And you wouldn't know the difference / Or would you? Savage Garden, "Santa Monica". Thanks, Susan, for finally letting me cross this one off. :)

  19. You're cold inside / You're not the one I hoped for / I'll see you on the other side Keane, "Untitled 1".

  20. I remember standing by the wall / The guns, they shot above our heads / And we kissed as though nothing could fall The Wallflowers, "Heroes". Thanks, Jess!

So there you go. Knock yourselves out, if you would be so inclined. :D

Cleopatra comin' atcha
...from my own computer! From my new home! From which I have a clear view of the downtown city skyline! And from which the view of all that water still made me momentarily woozy today, just for a few seconds! And I'm sorry about all the exclamation marks, but my wireless Internet just got connected and I'm excited about that! And the D-Link isn't actually working so well, so the connection comes and goes, but the guy's gonna give me a better, non-defective one by the end of the week. :D

(p.s., anyone remember that music group, Cleopatra? Man, that spelling of "atcha" is really irksome.)

That's enough exclaiming for me; that can get tiresome really, really quickly. I'm not used to speaking writing that excitedly when it's not something to do with movies in some way. Heh.

Two more weeks of my summer course, followed by the final on the 18th. Man, I can't believe it's August already. Live 8 was a whole month ago today. Yikes. Let's just pretend it's still July, just for a bit longer, okay? Do NOT remind me that September is only a month away...

Most of the boxes have been sorted out, emptied, and disassembled with great satisfaction. My IKEA shelves have been purchased and put together and NOT mounted on my wall even though they're meant to be. My books have places to sit, thank goodness...I don't THINK there are any more I haven't unearthed yet, but there are still a couple boxes over at my brother's new place, I think. I've still got to sort that out sometime. Later.

If I never have to sort through another box of my own stuff ever again, I will NOT be disappointed.

Oh, and I've got three Song Lyric Meme entries in the works, for anyone who enjoys that kind of thing. ;) I've, er, just got to look up the lyrics first. Not because I don't know them, necessarily, but because I like to make sure I know them PROPERLY. Heh.

Talk to you all later! :)

(p.p.s., I don't know if you're reading this, Aster, but just in case -- I unfortunately can't seem to comment on your new blog layout, if you start wondering where I've gone to. :P Computers don't like me very much.)
